Opportunities with the D. E. Shaw group

We’re not your average finance firm, and we know that as a MIT student, you’re not looking for an average job.  Currently, we are looking to hire a small number of truly gifted individuals with an extraordinary record of achievement for our Proprietary Junior Trader position.

Headquartered in New York City, the D. E. Shaw group is a global investment and technology development firm with more than 1,100 employees.  Activities range from the deployment of investment strategies based on either mathematical models or human expertise to the acquisition of existing companies and the financing or development of new ones.  As a trader, strong quantitative and analytical abilities; extraordinary communication, negotiation, and interpersonal skills; and an exceptional sensitivity to detail are essential.  Direct prior experience is not required, but some demonstrated interest in and exposure to financial markets is a decided advantage.

Interested students should apply directly through our website at www.deshaw.com/recruit/jobs/OC/MIT.  Please note that this is the only place you need to submit an application in order to be considered for openings at the D. E. Shaw group.

Our culture doesn't fit the typical corporate mold: we prize ideas over hierarchy, we embrace collaboration, and you’ll see more jeans than suits in our offices.  It’s an environment where you can enjoy stability and access to numerous resources without sacrificing that start-up mentality.  From free museum memberships to on-site wine tastings, the firm tries to facilitate personal growth for our employees in addition to fostering their professional development.

We look forward to hearing from you.  Best of luck with your studies!

Sincerely,

Strategic Growth
The D. E. Shaw group
